FOOTBALL.
RUGBY UNION ANNUAL MEETING. SATISFACTORY FINANCIAL POSITION. The annual general meeting of delegates of the Wellington Rugby football Union was held in the Chamber of Commerce last evening, Dr. A. K. Newman presiding over an attendance of about forty delegates. The report and balance-sheet, already printed, were laid before tho meeting. A Vanishing Asset. A lengthy discussion arose over an item figuring in the'statement of accounts as an asset:—Bill receivable, JEI39 18s. 3d. One Of the auditors (Mr. P. H. Smith) explained that a tag had been attached to the balance-sheet on account of this item, because tho auditors were unable' to determine its valuo as an asset.. Possibly there had been somo negligence on the part of tho Management' Committee of the Union. , _ . In the course of a" desultory discussion it was explained by members of tho Management Committee that u period of some months intervened between the time when an agreement was made to take over the Park from the late company. During the greater, part of the period a liquidator Was in possession. After the agreement had been inttdo a match with an Otago representative team was played. The gate of .£139 was tho item hguring as an asset. It had never.been recovered from the company, and' the liquidator disclaimed responsibility, on the ground that he had not taken over this asset when he entered into possession of the Park. Administration in this matter had beerf. very lax, declared one delegate.' ■. The discussion was long, but it terminated, without any satisfactory conclusion being arrived at. Defaulting Clubs. Mr. Campbell asked how;, many teams had defaulted in matches drawn last year. ,The secretary -said thatiitoit,,!!, chrbs had defaulted. r/ Mr. Campbell opined that some definite action should'be'taken in this matter.' ■ Wednesday -Playl■lf thoy wanted-tho game to prosper, said Mr. Leslie, they must get ; among the Wednesday players. To obtain the best results in the Wednesday games, Saturday players' should be excluded. Mr. O'Sullivan said this, was already done. , . Tho report and. balance-sheet wore adopted 011 the voices.
