The Technical School cadets,' who have Iji'on under canvas at tho show grounds, struck camp yesterday, after putting in a useful week's work, under tho direction of Captain Whaltoy and Lieutenants Kells and Onie. The competition for the best kept tent was won by tho squad under Sorgeimt Halpin. 'i'ho brass band of tho local Salvation Army Corps now numbers over -10. There would Ire a still further increase but for want of instruments. t John Rus-sol! Goodwin, farmer, of Tarnrua, has filed a declaration of insolvency. The liabilities are given at X 553 35., assets (stock in trade), .£l5O, leaving a deficiency of XlO.l 3s. A cricket match was played on the Palmcrston snorts ground yesterday afternoon between a team from the Pohangina Valley and an eleven representing the stock auctioneering firms of Palmcrston. The latter went in first, and. put together 159 (.O'Brien 53, Waghoru -19, Hicks 23). The '\ alley men responded with 143 (Howoll 51, H. W. Smart 28, S. Roberts 25, Russell 10), the "knights of the hammer" thus winning. Court Manawatu, A.0.F., held its quarterly summoned meeting last evening. Bro. M. Rosanowski, C.R., presided, and there was a large attendance of members. The proposal to initiate a friendly societies' dispensary was further considered, and several recommendations were ordered to bo forwarded to the Friendly Societies' Council. The annual balance-sheet showed that the funds have increased by ,£250 as a result of • the year's work. Bros. Osgood and Rolfe were appointed delegates to the Friendly Societies' Council for tho ensuing year. CITIZENS' LEAGUE CANDIDATES. . Palmerston North, March 29. The recently-formed Citizens' League has created a considerable amount of interest- in the forthcoming municipal elections. At a meeting of the league last evening, at. which Mr. R. S. Abraham presided, the candidates to be put up bythe league were selected as follow.—' Messrs. E. L. Broad, Bruce, Beale, H. J. Canton, W. L. Fitzherberf, F. Jackson, F. J. Nathan, F. Rolfe, F. J. Tasker, and T. J. Rodgers. In addition to these, five of the present councillors (Messrs. E. J. Armstrong, H. Haydou, F. Mowlem, W. M'Kenzie, and W. Stubbs) will be candidates, while Messrs. A. Buchanan, R. Edwards, and J. Robertson havo also announced themselves, and several others havo been spoken of as likely to, come out. The contest will probably be a keen one, but the general impression at present is that most of the old councillors standing will be re-elected. Numbers of Maoris passed through here yesterday, en route for Papawai, where a great assemblage is gathering for the unveiling of the monument to the lateTamahau Mahupuku. ' Between six and seven hundred new names were placed on tho municipal roll up to the time of closing last evening. Largo numbers, however, did not trouble to enrol, and tho list will consequently not ba anything like a complete one. A public meeting of tho Citizens' League is to bo held on Friday evening, at which certain members are to give addresses. Mr. Andrew Guy wilt discourse on the aims and:.objects of the league; Mr. W. Park on electric trams; Messrs. R. S. Abraham and A. H. Wylde on water supply; and Mr. W. L. Fitzherbert on baths and library. At the conclusion of these addresses there will be a general discussion on tho platform of the league.
