HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) COURT BUSINESS. Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., presided at the monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. For allowing horses to wander, M'Vieav and Corson were convicted and ordered to pay Court costs amounting to 7s. John Maxwell, for a similar offence, was fined 20s. and costs 7s. Mr. Cracroft Wilson appeared for John Tancred chnrgcd (1) with assaulting Henry Jonts; (2) with disorderly conduct while drunk. A plea of guilty was entered in both cases. On the first information defendant was fined 10s., with 10s. costs, and on tho second ho was convicted and discharged. . For selling light-weight bread, the following were cach fined .£2, with costs 75.: M'Vicar and Corson, G. SI. William?, A. W. Boden, and C. 11. Beynon. Mrs. L. Oakley, on a similar information, was, owing to special circumstances, fined 10s., with costs 75., The maintenance ease Martha Stolo v. Alexander Augustus Stole was adjourned until next Court day. Prohibition orders were granted against Honehuna Tepuni and Anthony Martin. Georgo Arthur Tegg, for obtaining liquor during the currency of a prohibition order (two charges), was convicted and fined 205., with 75., costs. Hubert de Eosa, similarly charged, was fined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment. Sarah Elizabeth Snow was charged under Section 17 of tho Police Offences Act, 1008, with having kept her shop open on Sunday, February 19, .for the purpose of supplying refreshments. Dr. M'Arthur said ho would like to look fully into, tho case before giving judgment. A very important question was involved, and ha would, take time to consider, it. Ho therefore adjourned the case until next Saturday. Judgment was given plaintiff by default in the civil case, John King v. James M'lndoe, a debt of ,£5, with costs amounting to <£1 os. Gd. In the judgment summons case .T. W. M'Ewan v. Arthur Backhouse, defendant was ordered to extinguish a debt of .Ct 10s. sd. on or before April 10 in default seven days' imprisonment. FIRE AT PETONE. At a quarter to three yesterday- morning a fire broke out in a H-rooumd dwelling on tho Hutt Koad, Petone. The house was occupied by Mrs. Wr/.tkins and I owned by Mr. T. Price. Tl/o brigade quickly suppressed the flames which 'were "confined to the kitchen and dining-room. The dwelling is insured in the Ocean Accident Office for ,£IOOO, and the furniture in the Commercial Union for <£3iio. The estimated damage to tho house is ,£2!)0, and the effects were damaged to the extent of about J3200.
