M'Kcnzie arrived in Napier on Saturday night from (Jisborno, via Wairoa, and received several deputations in connection with the East Coast railway. Ho siated that, before the Napier end could bo started, it would 1 havo to be authorised by Parliament, andthe money voted to carry it on. Meanwhile, it was proposed to start a branch, , of the.. Public Works Department in Napier, and send, an engineer there to do the preliminary work, The wholo rail-. way ought to bo completed in ten years. The Government had "fully made up their; minds that tho Hue would, bo ouo of 'ha J main trunk lines of tho Dominion, aud-'it ought to be finished as soon as possible., There was no reason why it should not be j pushed on energetically, and, as soon as > Parliament provided the necessary' fluids, a start would be made with the Napier end.
