PUMPKIN SEEDS FOR COWS.
AMERICAN EXPERIMENTS. "Hoard's. Dairyman" was asked as to whother scientific experiments have been made in feeding squash or pumpkin seeds to cows and if they have any effect on the flow of milk. The paper answered: "Several experiment stations have experimented with pumpkins, and found them to bo very good for dairy cows. Mr. Hills, of tlio Vermont Experiment Station, found that 2J tons of pumpkins, including feed, was equal to one ton of corn silago for dairy cows. Mr. French, of the Oregon Experiment Station, found that 200 pound pigs, wlion daily consuming 2Glb. of cooked common yellow pumpkins in a small allowance of wheat shorts, gained IMb. ■ The United States Dispensatory states that pumpkin seed is a vermifuge with no reference to any other property; the seeds contain much nutriment and should not be wasted."
The value of living animals imported by England during the month of January was JE285,4C0, compared with .£3-18,931 in tho corresponding month last year. Tho number of cattle was 15,022, against 10,957, and there were 3217 sheep, none having been received in January last year. Beef imports were 780,703cwt., against 824,092, and mutton 1,008,707cwt., against- 730.313. Bacon and hams showed air increase. Tlio total value of dead meat imported during the month wfts «£3j73i,949, against ,£3,370,184. The value of butter was ,£2,450,095, against .£2,230,620; and cheese ,£363,839, against *£368,765,
