WOOL CLIP LOSSES.
REJOINDER TO MR. WILSON. ' : - [To tho -Editor.! Sir, —Of all the extraordinary epistles ever penned, surely that appearing in i\ your issue of March 20 last, beaded "Wool-clip Losses," and written by A. P. Wilson, is the most extraordinary. What is Mr. Wilson attempting to explain? Apparently ho is trying to account for the delicioncy in the . wool slip of Hawke's 13ay for 1910, as compared with that, of 1909. Ho mentions that tho season was a very wet and generally unfavourable one for sheep, but that is -not- sufficient reason for the deficiency, at least not according to Mr. 'Wilson. No! ho will have none of it. it is-the' Romney sheep.- Well, everyone is entitled to his own opinion, especially if he'keeps it to himself,i but -why,- aftor' vilifying the Romneyi does 1 'A., P. : Wilson turn round aud praiso him 'gloriously?: . . Mr. Wilson admits-that the Romney . 'is -'noted amongst sheep for that alllimportant characteristic.,. constitution. ■We aro ■ told that a live dog is of more Rvalue than a dead lion!-. Is not, then, ' a .live. Romney worth considerably more than a dead Lincoln? Surely ho is; therefore, I- ask, What is Mr. Y7 ilson trying to explain ? Does Mr. Wilson seriously, contend that tho loss in the wool ■ clip of 1910, as compared with that of 1909, is duo solely to the Romney, the loss amounting on many farms and' stations to 21b. per sheep? .We have been using Romneys for sevx eral.years.in-Hawke s Bay, but we have never had a sudden drop in our clip of 21b. -in twelve, months. - So'J think Mr.-Wilson fails to prove his point that the- Romney is a miserably light clip- • p'ef, but; is that Mr. Wilson's point? Oh ! I give it up, but please tell me what is Mr. Wilson suiting about.—l am, etc., MOT ERE. March 22, 1910.
