"LITTLE SHORT OF MARVELLOUS."
• i « — PEOGEESS OF THE KING COUNTRY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) r Auckland, March 24. •Mr. T, W. Jennings, M.P. for Taumarunui, lias -just completed a 3000mile tour of liis which is about the largest in tho Dominion. Interviewed on his arrival in Auckland this morning, Mr. Jennings spoke in an optimistic strain cf the progress nnd potentialities of the King Country. The development of tho last few years he describes as little short of marvellous. "In tho course of e. C6-mile ride across country from the seaboard to To ICuiti this week, the member for the- district had ail opportunity of witnessing, the cffcct of the rece.it- heavy bush fires. The result, says Mr. Jennings, has been u.neficial in the highest degree, as tn./st of the land h:is now been cleared of stumps and undergrowth. The difll--ulty of road ins Nat've land is stiii icutc, and settlers arc feeling very sore that the Act of last session lias not brought greater relief "Speaking generally," continued Mr. Jennings. "I must say I have never seen the King Country in a more flour-r-bing condition. The fact that so much Nativo land still remains locked up is, of course, unsatisfactory, yet the progress of the last few years lias been most remarkable. A ease in point was (he initial King Country show held ten ■lavs ago, when 1000 persons were preicuH. Seven years ago there were not 14 Dortons living in the district,"
