On the motion of Mr. A. H. Atkinson, president of the Feilding branch of tho Navy League, the following resolution was unanimously carried, after Mr. A. S. Malcolm's address oil "Imperial Federation here: "That in tho opinion of this meeting: (1) The rapid growth of the is ayies of other Powers has 'b'ecoiiio a serious danger to tho British Empire; (l) that it is unjust that almost tho whole burden of guarding tli'e Empire , against this danger should bo borne by the United -Kingdom, which cannot' indefinitely stand the strain; (3) that tho oversea Dominions, being equally concerned with the United Kingdom to avert the danger, should share in tho burden oil some equitable basis apportioned ■ to their wealth and population; (4) that, upon their undertaking this liability, tho Dominions should be given a share to be similarly determined in tho control ot the defence expenditure and foreign policy of the Empire; (5) that this meeting therefore welcomes tho idea of an Imperial federation as advocated by Mr. A. iS. Malcolm, M.P., and since apnroved bv the Prime minister, and considers that the matter demands the prompt attention of Parliament and the country." REIKORANGI. Some very" minor improvements have been made to the school of late, and no doubt tho Education Board considers that it has been .very generous to the district. Parents, however, do not agree with' this. Somo of the small children after trudging three miles on a winter's morning will have to be content b look ut a rejected heater which will give forth no heat. Miss White' has been appointed assistant teacher at the school. The continued dry weather is having'ah effect on the milk supply at tho local creamery, which is only putting through 500 gallons daily. The creamery concert and dance was a great success. Firing the evening soiieC-. were given by Mrs. Haines and Mr. Powell; Mr. Marsden contributed a recitation, and several selections were, given by an orchestra comprising Miss Stubbings, Messrs. K. Stubbings,'o. Stubbings, C. Kemsley, Short, E. Brown, and Geo. Howe. Mr. W. D. Bennett acted as master of ceremonies. CARTERTON. The Wairarapa South County Council staff on Tuesday placed concrete pipes in the water'race crossing the East Ta.rntahi Road, on this side of the Waingawa School. A sale of produce, etc., in connection with the Methodist harvest festival took placo on Tuesday evening in the schoolroom. There was a good attendance, and, as usual, the goods found ready purchasers. '• The many friends of Mr. James Jones, of South Carterton, v;ill jegret to hear that his wife is at present passing through a s'crious illness. The Rev. B. H. Ginger, formerly Methodist minister here, and now of Woodville, paid a brief visit to the town this week. Dr. E. W. Smyth, who has been practising in Carterton for the past two years, has tendered his resignation to various friendly societies on account of his approaching departure from the district. ■The doctor had won many friends, and there are numbers who will remember very gratefully the care and skill which he has shown when they have had occasion to require his presence. At the annual meeting of the Carterton Hockey Club, the report and balance-sheet showing a credit balance of «£3 7s. 4d. were read and adopted. Officers as under were elected:—Patron, Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P.; president, Mr. Howard W. Booth; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. A Kitchen, E. Eagle, jun., W. Moore, w". l'lsner, A. J. Lindop, and C. Morgan, sen.; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. jr. Whyte; auditor, Mr. L. Carmine; management committee, Messrs. E. V. Ellis S. Morgan, J. Lawrence, and the secretary. and treasurer; match committee, Messrs. E. TnnmclilTe, S. Morgan, and the captain; delegates to Wairarapa Hockey Association, Messrs. A J and T Fisher and C. M. Whyte. The subscript tion was fixed.at 2s. 6d. for juniors, and ss. for seniors. It was decided to open tho season on March 30, and to retain the club s colours—black and white. WOODVILLE. At last meeting of the Woodville School Committee, Mr. Arthur Rendle was re:ominended by Mr. Stevenson, the'headmaster, as a suitable locum tenens in place of Miss Dagh, who is unablo to take ;ip duty on account of ill-health. Miss King is also to replace Miss Keys. The ittcndance for the quarter was 97 ne'ilent, of the roll, which is the highest xverage which the school has attained.
