QUALITY OF SEASON'S BUTTER
THE "ALLEGED FISHIXESS. ' ;An exchange savs that a well-known firm' of ' produce merchants, writing to a dairy company, states in the course of the commuilication that, "Wo have not received one singlV Complaint. about the quitlity butter!'•. . . -Wo canr.ot h?lp thinking that the cry of fishincss has been raised by certhin firms which held out such glowing prospects of. tho butter market ffir this season in order to obtain consignments, and now finding that they are'not able to make good thvir recommendations to the factories, ara trying to make out that it is the quality that, is at fault. We hare letiers from London which state that the quality o.f New Zealand butter has never been better, and many 6f these Utters also state that the c-iure of tho 1 low prices ruling has teen that there has been too nluch butter in the hands of a few firms -who all through the season have been the weakfet sellers, and in order to quit-the heavy consignments which they are handling, cut their prices. It is our opinion that the more butter, that is sold c.i.f. at. the beginning of the season' the better chance we have; of maintaining , high prices for New Zealand butter. Instead of confining consignments to a few firms, 'New Zealand factory men should have their butter distributed as widely as possible Amongst nil merchants who are trading in Njw Zealand butter in London, : thu? giving them some incentive to advertise and push the sale."
