Miss Grace Armstrong, a graduate of ;t New Zealand, where she practised denir tistry for some years, has just opened i, a dental surgery in Regina, in the Canait dian North-West, and is the only lady i- attending the conventions of the Dental Society of Western Canada. Miss Norah |- Armstrong, her sister, who is a nurse, if is also following her profession in Regina. The l?ev. Cecil Hepher, vicar of St. ! John's, ."Newcastle, who was one of the •- misfsioners who recently visited New Zeai. land, is full of praise of the Dominion, i- its beauty, the hospitality of its people, s their loyalty, love of culture, and atten- ■- tion to settlers' religion. In New Zeae land, Mr. Hepher said last week, with s regard to the work in which he was eni- gaged, that he and his fellow missioners e were unanimous in opinion that they had !. had the time of their lives. 1 Four cavalry and four infantry sergcants are required by the New Zealand tl Government, to be employed as instruc- ■ • tors. Her activities are divided bo- ; tween the' work of the Women's Social and Political Union (and other "Votes for Women" bodies) and tho British Women's Temperance Association. She > goes first to Sussex, then to Manchester and Blackburn, then over to Yorkshire and back to London, where she is to lecture in tho Bijou Theatre, on behalf of the Women's Freedom League. When her daughter leaves Rodean , School for her holidays, in tho middle-of March, Lady Stout will take a rest, and. with her son, Mr. 0. E. Stout (now at Cambridge University), and lie.- daughter, visit Venice, Florence, and.Rome The High Commissioner for New Zealand was present at tha lunch given at t.ie Guildhall last week, to welcome the Duke of Connaught back from South Africa; on Wednesday took a narty of New Zealanders to Canning Town to see the launch of the Thunderer; on Thursday attended the dinner of the Institution of Electrical -Engineers at the Hotel Cecil; on Friday was present at a dinner .given Jiy tho of Queensland, in celebration of the ooening of (he Torres Strait route to Brisbane, and nil Saturday was at the receptions given by the Marchioness of Lansdowne and Mrs. Asouitli, in connection with the opening [ of the new Parliament. [ The Colonial Club, n social organisation formed in London by voung New Zealanders a year or two ago, held its annual dinner en Fridav week at the Phoenix Hotel, Princes Street, W., with Mr. Richard E. Dobbie in the chair. The menu was of an aggressively Maori character. It was adorned with tho national fern leaf, and the-Maori welcome, "Ilaerenlai Koutou," and the familiar souo and chicken were disguised under the " aweinspiring names of "To Kai Wai" and "fe Hiken"—and so on through tho bill, "here was an excellent attendance. The rmi sts °' "Fellow Members Abroad.' 1 'The Mother Country." and "The Colonies were proposed bv Messrs. White, Brown, and Charles A. Kessell. and were received with enthusiasm. The concert programme, which Mr. Kessell in his capacity as lion, secretary and treasurer had arranged for tho evening, was contributed to by Messrs. C. Temple. H. H. Lane, T. Banbury, Jennings, 8. Lancaster, Arnold Abel, and A. Ravbone. and the evening closed with a Maori liaka, led by Ml'. Kessell. Ainoncrst others nresent were Messrs. Hinds, Owles (2), Patterson, Gregnrv, Dalvev, Davidson, J. S. Milne, and Wheatcroft.
