ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATAL AFFAIR AT COLYTON. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Feilding, March 22. A shocking tragedy occurred at Colytou last night, resulting in tho death of Stephen Melvin, an old settler.
Melvin, who had had an engineering training, was experimenting with an acetylene gas plant, made by himself with a milk-can and an oil-drum, when an explosion took place. Terrible injuries were inflicted on Melvin's head, and he died in half an hour.
DEATH AT LEVIN. Levin, March 22. Mrs. William Wynne Park, lately from Wellington, died here last night—it is supposed from heart' disease. An inquest is to bo held. DROWNED IN THE AWATEEE. Blenheim, March 22. A man named Edwards, employed at' Richmond Brook Station, was drowned in the Awatere River yesterday. No details are yet available. MAORI GIRL'S DEATH. ..... Wairoa, March 22. A Maori girl, aged eight vears, we.s drowned yesterday at Frasertown. The body has not been recovered.
