The celebrated Mokau Block Estate, about which there has been litigation, for the past thirty-five years, is reported to have been sold to-day by the llaori owners, numbering one hundred and twenty, to >lr. Hermann Lewis, of Wellington, for <£25,000, and 2000 shares in a Canterbury, Hawke's Bay, and Manawatu syndicate which, with .£IOO,OOO capital, ia acquiring the property with the idea of further developing it and its shipping mid coal mino interests. Tho whole estato at the time of sale comprised 56,000 acres, of which 48,500 was freehold, and tho remaining section, partly leasehold, has been leased to tho now owners. 13y the terms of tho sale the Native owners acquire a permanent interest in the pro. porty.
