SAVAGE CLUB.
—$ ANNUAL MEETING. The annual report of the Wellington Savage Club states:—"The funds of th« club are.in a ..very satisfactory sfale, tho balance at credit of profit and loss aocount being .£l3l IB;.' (id. The total membership, of the club ii) now 388, and tho committee have fixed tho membership to bo limited to -100. The standard of entertainment provided at the korerns during the past season was exceptionally high. Tho attendances were also vcYy large, the average bring about 250 at each korero. During the session members of the Pallnerston North and Timaru Savage Clubs visited and woro entertained by us. Tha programmes of the koreros were, as usual, provided by Iho visitors, and were extremely entertaining. On September 24 last a number of our members visited the Auckland Club. The trip was much enjoyed, and tho hospitality extended to th'em by the members of Iho Auckland Club was very much appreciated by those who were able to mako the visit. Your committee, ever since the inception of tho club, have been extremely desirous of developing talent that might be latent amongst its members, and would be glad if any member willing to contribute an item would leave his name with Ihe secretary, when lie would he given tho earli* est possible opportunity of performing, Such an iteni could be either a sketch, I song, or story, or anything whatever in the nature of entertainment. The ones, tion of securing club premises was fullj. considered last year by your commitice, and they have decided, after having fully investigated the recommendations nf thfl previous committee, that t.liey do not conside, it is in the best interests of tho club to depart from the present arrangement. The committee is of tho opinion that tho interchange of visits of tho club with kindred institutions should lx> placed on a definite basis, and recommend. that the club should make and receive 0110 visit annually. The club to bo visited imh year should be Christchurch, whilst tho club to lie entertained should bo Auckland. Your committee is of tho opinion I that power should be given them to elect 1 as honorary life members those distinguished in the arts, science, literature, or ; by reason of public services, and also those who may have rendered special ser- ; vice to the club, not more than three such members to be elected annually. A pro- . posal to devote an amount of the club's [ funds for the purpose of developing exceptional talent evinced by any member [ of the club has been investigated by a ■ sub-committce, and your committee ro- | commend that the matter be referred to j the general meeting."
