ME. H. D. BEDFORD'S CAMPAIGN. (From .Our Special Correspondent.) Mastcrton, -March 20. On Sunday evening,' Mr. H. D. Bedford addressed a mass meeting in the Town Hall on No-License matters. The building was crowdcd to overflowing, many being unable to gain admission. At the conclusion of his address, a resolution was carried as follows:—"This vast assembly of Mastcrton citizens declare that No-License has been a magnificent success, and in the best interest of the town and district." During the course of the meeting, Mr...James M'Gregor stated that the closing of the open bar had proved 'a" blessing to the Natives of the district. He had to pass through the leading Maori pah in the neighbourhood on the road to his homestead. Prior to the carrying of No-License it was not an uncommon thing to see Natives lying intoxicated by the roadside," but since the closing "of the hotels he had not seen a single case of drunkenness near the pah. Mr. Stevens, Inspector of Post Offices, is at present, on a visit to Mastcrton. Mr.. Francis Shaw, one of the oldest and most' respected settlers of this district, leaves this week, in companv with Mr. Frank Huort (his son-in-law), his daughter, and his granddaughter, on a visit to the Old Country.

The rush. at the Waingawa Freezing Works .has .now subsided. About 1000 head per day : were slaughtered last week.
