MINING NOTES. In the Wait-angi mine, Tararu, the low level has been extended 24ft., and is now over 1466 ft. An improvement in the country is reported. On the right-hand side it is coming in softer, and . carries small veins ot quartz.. ■ The manager of the Bendigo mine, Te Aroha, reports that two men are, engaged timbering, the leading stOpe north of No. 1 rise. Two more men will ho put to rise on' the reef in the north end. When the assay plant' is completed the ore will bo tested ■ more. frequently. . Royal Oak.—Sloping operations arc now in progress on • the. Tokatca reef, No. 3 level. ■ The reef is ICin. in width, giving fair'dish prospects of loose gold. Colours and. dabs of gold are also seen in the stone,. In -the No. 7 level the riFC was advanced 4ft.' last week. The reef is 15in. in width, and the quartz is still of low grade. Rising Suu.—Four-feet have been driven during the week, making a total distance of 1504 feet, which is all timbered up to face. The ground is slower for working and the large flow of water issuing from face makes it difficult, for working. Progress during the week has been slower; only having two men working. Have great difficulty in getting miners at present. Starting two more men on Monday. Another quartz body was cut, but the manager cannot say what it is like yet, as lie lias not cut into it. He cxpccts the water to drain off after the quart: body is cut through. The drive on Huntly's reef in the Handsworth United mine lias been extended lift, through good country. The lode is from Sin. to 12in. wide, and, although the values vary from day to day, most of the ore i 3 being saved for treatment. In the rise on the same reef, blue country is still in the back. Fair progress is being mado with the leading stope north and south in the Otama, section, and a little gold was seen during the week. At the battery the sands- will be treated by cyanide. A further 16ft; has been. driven in the low level, face of.tho Zeehan Consolidated mine through good rack. Although a good many quartz veins are always present, so far nothing has been intersected that would indicate the reef formation. Strong gushes of water are being tapped in the back of the drive, and the only reasonable conclusion is that the reef •is dipping away further than expectcd. The overflow from the winze has stopped, but the water has not been-iloWered-more--than '3in. Mountain King.—The lode ill the stopes has been- smaller than previously, lience a limited quantity of ciuartz has been broken out and crushed. The stope going north of the break continues to show gold freely, though this has not been extended much for the last two or three weeks on account of other works having to he. done. The ore being won outside of the main level continues to give good payable returns. The battery worked only about 7 hours per day, water being limited. The low level contractors arc now in a, total of 74ft. from the starting Doint. The ground is improving, and the lode in the face is becoming better defined, but so far not Showing gold. The works are still ti considerable distance off the known chute of rich ore.
