An arrival in tho stream yesterday afternoon from Napier was tile F.-H.-S. Line's steamer Durham, under chartcr to the New Zealand Shipping Company. The vessel will replenish bunkers here, and also load whatever cargo may be offering. She is expected to clear for Picton on Friday next, and leaves the Bluff finally for London about March 29. ARAWA'S EXPECTED ARRIVAL. This evening tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Arawa, from London, via Cape Town and llobart, is expected to show up here. It is probable that the vessel will not berth until the morning. If such be the case she ought to bo alongside the Queen's Wharf No. 1 south between 9 and 10 o'clock. KARAMEA LEAVES PORT. Karamea, s.s., of tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's line of steamers, finished taking in the Wellington portion of her London cargo on Saturday, and left for Gisborne and Auckland at 6.10 a.m. yesterday. She leaves the northern port next Saturday for London, and is due at her destination on May 11. A number of passengers are travelling by tho vessel. AN AMERICAN VISITOR. The four-masted barquentino Kohala, which arrived at Lyttelton from Grays Harbour, U.S.A., on Friday, is a typicat American lumber carrier, and is a wooden four-masted vessel of 891 tons gross register. She belongs to Hind Kolpn and Co., of San Francisco, the owners of a large licet of similar vessels. She is squarerigged on the foremast only, carrying six yards on that mast, and big fore-and-aft sails on the other three masts. Ilcr maetn are very lofty, being about 140 or 150 feet from the deck to the trucks, and are all of even height. On her fore-yard she' carries what are seldom seen nowadays, although common enough in the old days of clipper ships, namely, "stu'usail" booms, which are "rigged out" and carry extra sails in light winds. Tho Kohala has arrived in splendid or; dcr. Like all American sailers, she is scrupulously clean, her well-kept rigging i 3 in perfect order, and her poop-deck— sacred place on an American wiiyjjammer —would outclass the promenade fleck of many a passenger liner for appearance. The vessel (says a Christchurch paper) presents an extraordinary appearance owing to her huge deck-load of great lengths of lumber. The deck-load is thirteen to fourteen feet in height, and contains 400,000 feet of timber—approximately one-third of her whole cargo. She carries a surprisingly small crew, all hands, from captain to cabin-boy, numbering twelve, there being only six hands beforo the mast. After discharging at- Lyttelton she will leave in ballast for Newcastle to load coal for San Francisco. RIMUTAKA'S CARGO. When the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Rimut-aka left Lyttelt-on for London, via Monte Vidca-, Tcnerill'c, and Plymouth, on Friday, the vessel was drawing 27ft. Sin. aft and 22ft. Gill, forward. She had a full cargo, the principal line« in which were:—lo,os3 bales of wool, 76,85 a carcasses of mutton and lamb, 1374 carcasses of pork, 3816 quarters of beef, 944 casks of tallow, pelts, etc. The Rimutaka took eight saloon passengers from Lyttelton, and will take about 300 on at Monte Video. She is due at Plymouth about April 29. Following is a complete summary of her cargo:—From Lyttelton: 3911 bales wool, 20,620 carcasses lamb. 4185 carcasscs mutton, 2148 Eacks wheat-, 44 cask 3 oleo, 322 casks tallow, 94 casks pelts, 2V casks' casings, 33 crates sweetbread*, 240 crates ; kidneys, 48 rarcasECS pork, and 10 packages sundries. Lyttelton will be the final Dort of departure for London for tho New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Orari, which steamer is now on her way from Auckland to Wellington.
