Detectives Kemp and Hammond arrested an ex-steward off the steamer Mapotirika on Saturday on a charge of theft of a suit of clothes valued at £i, the •property of Mr. 0. Turnbull, of Nelson. It. is alleged that Mr. Turntmll sent a suit to ■ his tailors to be altered. Th 6 suit tfas forwarded to tho Mdpottrika fof delivery, but never reached its owner. Inquififs were then put in. hand which led to the arrest of a man who had been employed as a steward on the steamer. Mr. G. Brown, severed his connoction with 'the D.J.'C. on Saturday, after seventeen years' service, and was presented by tho staff with a gold albert and pendant, suitably inscribed, as a token of esteem and goodwill.
