« EAIPLOYERS' FIGHTING FUND. By Telegraph—l'ress AtsociaUon-Copyririit Melbourne, March 18. As the result of the negotiations which have been proceeding for some time, the employers have drafted a scheme for the defcnce of employers and non-unionists from loss through strikes. It is proposed lo raise a permanent fund of ,C 200,000, the interest from which will be devoted to the defence of the employers and the support of a free workers' society, and the industrial education of free employees. The members of the society' will be assisted to the extent of half wages in tho case of a lock-out or strike. It is intended to found a scholarship, in connection with tho society, in each branch of tho trade. It is reported that tho movement is receiving very strong support. TIMBER TRADE TROUBLE. Melbourne, March 18. There is a recrudescence of the trouble between the timber-stackers and the masters. The latter refused to grant a conference, and the men thereupon dumped their timber on the wharves instead of placing it in the wagons. • Work is at a standstill. Several vessels aro held up. .THE HARVESTER STRIKE. Melbourne, March 18. The strikers at tho harvester works have already sacrificed over <£16,000 in wages. CANADIAN MINERS' WAGES. Ottawa, March 17. The wages demands of the Western Canada coal miners will probably lead to a strike. Negotiations aro proceeding between employers and employees, and a definite result is expected by April 1. Thousands of employees aro affected.
