The only Ministers of the Crown in Wellington this morning are the Hou. J. A. Millar and the Hon. D. Buddo. Tho Acting-Premier (Hon. J. Carroll) is at P&rihaka, the Hon. G. l'owlds at Christchurch, the Hon. T. Mackenzie at Duncdin, the Hon. R. M'Kcnzio and the Hon. A. 'I'. Ngata on the East Coast. The Hon. D. Buddo returned from the south yesterday morning. Mr. Charles .T. Royle (Australian Co.i-sul-Gcneral for Paraguay) and -Mrs. Royle, of Wnhroonga, Sydney, are on a visit hero. They are touring tho Dominion, and are at present staying at tho Grand Hotel. A statement appears to bo in circulation to the effect that Mr. B.A. Wright, member for Wellington South, docs not intend to seek re-election. On inquiry from Mr. Wright we were informed that there is not tho slightest truth in the. rumour. He intends to contcst .his prosent seat against all-comers. Sir "William Russell, writing from Lewes to a member of tho staff - of a southern paper, after describing some of the public work he is doing at Home, , says that lis is in no danger of forgetting New Zealand. "I have spoken on the Dominion generally," he says, "and- have been interviewed by numbers of people who have been delighted by my,account of the country, so 1 hope I am not altogether useless—l am not 'the world forgetting,' and I do not wish to bo 'by the world forgot.'" At the time of writing (January 27), Sir William was "just off to the South of France," ami expected to be back in London for the season. Sub-Inspector Crnickshank is to take up his duties at the Dunedin Police Station to-day. -Sub-Inspector Thair. is leaving Dunedin to-day for Tiinaru. His Honour Mr. Justice Cooper is expected back from Auckland to-night. Tho Rev. .1. Pattison, who opened yesterday a mission at St. James s Presbyterian Church, is a North of Ireland main, but was educated at the Princeton Seminary, United States. As a Presbyterian minister in New Zealand, he has had charge of churches at Napier and Waipukurau. The General Assembly held at Auckland selected him as evangelistic missioner for the Dominion', and the. present mission is the second since his ap pi.intment. Sub-Tnspector M'Grath, of the Christchurch police, arrived from Napier, where h-3 lias been spending a holiday, on Saturday. He will leave for the south tonight. Mi-. R. R. Abraham, of Palmerston, is offering himself as a candidate for a scat ou the Wellington Harbour Board, to represent country districts. Lieutenant G. Willis, Officer Commanding the Wellington Highland Ritlos, who left on Saturday for Marlborough, was entertained prior to his departure by tho o(!)ccrs and N.C.O.'s. Lieuteni.it Henderson, in presenting him with a case of pipes and a cigarette case, made'complimentary l-cfercnco to work which Lieutenant Willis had done, specially mentioning the strides which the corps had made under his command. Lieutenant Henderson also referred to the great interest which Mrs. Willis had taken in the corps, and to the many occasions on which members of I he. company had been her guests at llieir home at Island Bay. Lieutenant Henderson's remarks were seconded by Lieutenant Wilkinson, ColourSergeant M'Donnld, and Mr. Shannon. The toa=t of the guest was then drunk with musical honours. Songs were contributed by Lieutenants Henderson, Wilkinson, and Willis, and Sergeants Gardner and Ritchie. On Saturday tho Highlanders were well represented on tho wharf, ami jnve Lieutenant Willie a real' hearty Mud-off.
