LETTER-CARRIERS' SOCIAL CLUB.
Tho sixth animal meeting of tho.Let* tor-Carriers' Social Club was held in the.Alexander Hall last evening, -Mr. J. Johnstuhe presiding o'i-er a large gathering. Tlio- annual- report presented by the secretary (Mr. R. Iv. Coupar) showed that the. club had a very successful tho^'yea^ftn''orchestic had been foriiied, and a piano and bil-liard-table purchased. Tlie annual dinner, picnic, and social were successfully carried out. Tho revenue -.amounted to £103 Bs. 7d., and the expenditure to £80 13s. Id,, leaving a credit balance of £13 14s. Bd.- The report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted. Tho' committee was empowered to arrango for a 1 series of socials, if thought advisable.' It was decidcd to approach the Department, with a' view of holding the next annual dinner in tho new l'ost Ofii<!c, on tho opening of that building.. Tho election of officers resulted as follows'■ Chairman, Mr. J. Johnston; secretary, Mr. K. Spear; treasurer, Mr. C. 1). M'Ewan; auditor, Mr. li. J,' Stokes; committee, Messrs. Sullivan, Evenson, Chandler, Millar, Hulbert, Cochrane, Norris, Halton, and Lawless. Votes of thanks were accorded to tlio AssistantChief Postmaster, Mr. Gannaway,-. for past kindness to tlio Social Club. After several years of faithful service, Mr. R. K. Coupar relinquished the position of secretary. It is to Mr.. Coupar's energy that tho club owes' much of its success. Tho members of tho Social Club thought that lie should; not bo allowed to vacate tlio office without some recognition of his services, and during ail interval Mr. J. Johnstone , presented Mr. Coupar with a guard for himself and a'silver cruet sot for Mrs. Coupar. The club further presented Mrs. Coupar with a cheque for £5. Mr. Coupar, who oil rising to respond was heartily received, thanked the club for tho presents. Ringing cheers and tho singing of "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow greeted Mr. Coupar, as ho rosumed lijs seat. ' Votes of thanks wore passed to Mr. J. Johnston and the retiring committee. Shis toast being drunk with musical honours, Songs were contributed by. Messrs. Clancy, Norris, Sullivan, Fcek, Murphy, and Monaghan, and refeita-. tions by Messrs. H. Golding, Chandler, Johnston, and Hulbert. j\lr. Evenson accompanied tho singers in his u.mal efficient manner. "Auld Lang Sync," '"Hie Wearing of the Green." and the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
