NOTES OF INTEREST.

On Thursday last Mr. W. 0. Sail's six White Leghorns in the Utility Poultry Club's egg-laying competition broke tile New Zealand twelve mouths' record o'. 1106 eggs, made in tho second Blenheim competition by Mr. Brooks's (Clarendon) White Leghorns. The performance is a remarkably good one, and as tho birds are in splendid condition tlioy. promise well to beat the world's record (1538, held by A. H. l'adnian) having only 129 eggs to lay and fifty-one days to go to complete the twelve months. The Rangiuru Egg Ranch White Leghorns, which occupy second position, arc in fine bloom, looking as bright.and lively as young pullets which had keen' in full profit for a few months. They also promise to break the world's record.

At a meeting of the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club on March 7, the following members wero appointed a committee to go into the question of forming an egg-circle in Canterbury:— Messrs. R. W. Hawke, A. E. Wilson. T. Wilson, G. Willis, A. E. Kent, and- J. W. Bradley. Mr. John Studholme wrote donating £16 in prizes for tho fourth "Studholme test" weight of eggs, table birds and show specimens combined. The secretary was directed to thank Mr. Studholme for his generous-gift. The Management Committee reported that the painting and whitewashing of the houses had been completed at a cost of £46, and that the additional houses and runs for the fowls and ducks in'the coming competition were near completion, the estimated cost being £85. "A sub-committeo reported that it had purchased seven tons of pea straw for scratching material for tho fowls 'in the • seventh competition. Committees were set up to attend to the penrting of tho birds at tho dose 'of the . present competition, and take delivery of the incoming birds. By the Maitai,,the New Zealand Poultry Institute 'at Ghristchurch imported four whito leghorn cockerels, which arrived in splendid condition, and aro excellent birds. This is the secor.dj importation made by tho institute this season. Tho previous birds - arrived by the Aorangi arid aro doing well.
