With this" batch was a letter by Captain Wells, of tho Thunderer, describing the hero's death. "I much fear his honours were the cause of his " death, as ho evidently; was picked off from tho rest, wearing his stars in action, which, in my opinion, was rather'indiscreet. He loved to hear victory pronounced, and "that the few ships of tho enemy that were able were making olf with all possiblo sail. It had a very great effect on hjin. . Ho appeared pleased and'happy, and thanked God for allowing him to outlive the day, and died almost immediately convulsed—hia jov jy&a .too. greats
