« THE REV. T. H. SPROTT ACCEPTS 3 NOMINATION. !• The Rev. T. H. Sprott, vicar of St. 5 Paul's, Thorndon, who was elected by the ; Diocesan Synod to the Bishopric of Wol- [ lington, rendered vacant by the resigua- ' tion of Bishop Wallis, has informed tho ' Bishop's Commissary (Archdeacon Fancourt) that ho has accepted nomination, i The Prihiato has been notified of Mr. • Sprott's acceptance. The nest steps' pro- > scribed by tho law of the Church in the appointment of a bishop aro as-fol-low :— (1) The Primate obtains from the bishop-elect a declaration in writing of ' his assent to tho Constitution. (2) The Primate submits the nomination and the said declaration (or a copy, ' of it) to the General Synod or, if that body is not in session, then to the Stand-ing-Committees of the several dioceses, for its or their sanction of the nomination, (3) Where the submission is made to tho Standing Committees the members of each of such committees vote by Orders, , and the vole of the bishop of the diooeso .must'bo given unless he is absent from'New Zealand or physically incapacitated. If , the Standing Committee is presided over by a commissary ho has no vote, unless he is otherwise a member of the committee. . (I) The nomination being sanctioned by the General .Synod or by a majority of the Standing Committees, the. Primate takes tho necessary steps for tho conso. oration, within tho Province of New Zealand, of. the bishop-elect.
