December.—The King's visit to India for the Coronation Durbar at Delhi.
The stewards of the Turf Club have written to the Lord Lieutenant informing him that should the. King be pleased to attend an Irish race meeting during his visit to Ireland, a fixture could bu arranged for any day his Majesty should desire. The July meeting this year at Phoenix Park is set down for July 15, but could be changed to any other day. The scale on which the great Coronation Durbar will be held at Delhi, India, depends on the forthcoming monsoons and the ensuing harvests. If ihn monsoons fail the scheme for tlio Durbar will have to be considerably curtailed. Delhi landlords are already profiting by the great ceremony to come. A tiny house of only two rooms has been let for JJI3OO. The whole house, with the land, cannot have cost more than .£3OO. Many wealthy tourists arc expected, and some of the American millionaires are seeking for convenient camping sites among those which are now being mapped out.
There will be miles of electric installations. Leading Calcutta firms havo already applied 'for the supply of all sorts of furniture for the camps, and applications galore have been sent in for the supplying of refreshments. The , matter which is giving the most Iroublo is the upkeep and the watering of the roads. The elephant procession, which is (o be one of (lie features of Ihe Durbar, is also a subject of serious consideration.
Delhi being in the centre of India, and situated in m\ immeasurable, waste, supplies of fish—encased in ice ; will have to be brought both from Bombay and Calcutta. A million eggs are lo be brought in daily, and fowls and ducks nnd game by the thousand.
