THE TURF.
NOTES AND COMMENTS. [By Glencoe.l The Napier Park Racing Club's meeting opens at Greenmeadows to-day, when tlio ivapier Cup will be decided.
At Flemingtoii this afternoon, the Victoria Racing Club's meeting will be concluded.
. Both Parable and Woodhey, who are engaged in tho Napier Cup to-day, have previously won the.event.
Nominations for the Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting close at 10 p.m. next Friday.
■ Acceptances for the first day's events at tho Mastcrton Racing Club's autumn meeting are due on Friday.
' The Lincolnshire Handicap will be run in England on Tuesday next, Mid the Liverpool Grand National will bo decided on March 24. It is said to be probable that Lutteur 111, winner of tho Grand National of 1909, will competo in next week's contest under the burden of Sst. 31b.
Provided that the approval of the chairman of the Racing Conference is forthcoming, tho Wellington Racing Chib will hold tho autumn meeting on Friday and Saturday instead of on the Wednesday and Saturday originally selected.
Bobadca's victory in tho Loch Plate will have the effect of making the race for tho Champion Stakes to-day look a little more open. Right up till last week Trafalgar has hold tho position of favourite for tho three miles race. Should ho win to-day, it will be an interesting record to chronicle, as his grandsire, Carbine, twice won-the event, and his sire, Wallace, dead-heated with Quiver in the race of 1896.
■ Kopu and Vi arc generally regarded as unlikely starters in the Cup at Napier to-day.-
• Eingswcll, who had an engagement in tho scurry events at tho Opunako meeting, is not to bo taken to the Coast fixture. This will pave the way somewhat forthe colt Katun.
The probable starters and riders in tho Cup at Napier to-day are:—Parable, Bsi. (C. Jenkins); Rauparaha, Sst. (H. Gray); Woodhey, 7st. 131b. (L. Wilson) ; Fort William, 7st. 121b. (E. Lowe); Iney, 7st. 101b. (J. Buchanan); Julian, 7st. 51b. (J. Sceats); and Moree, 6st. 71b. (J. M'Lcan).
Mr. E. J. Watt's team, consisting of Parable, Cheddar, and Kildouan. wore walked from Hastings to Greenmeadows last evening after sundown. Parable, who is to bo ridden by C. Jenkins, looks fresh and well, and so does Cheddar. Kildouan, as usual, is not. carrying much condition, but bis jumping will stand to'him, and ' tho company opposed to him is not select.
• The Torpedo gelding, Torbelle, who went wrong after racing at Wanganui early this month, is still in the paddock'. There is no chance of. him facing the starter for some time to come.
At Grecnmcadows to-day H. Gray is to ride Rauparaha in the Cup, and Gold Bond in tho Sapling Stakes. The lastnamed has only 7st 51b., and, consequently, will have to carry a few pounds overweight to secure Gray's services.
At the Thames Jockey Club's meeting on Saturday, R. 'W. Brown rode three winners, and dead-heated for first place in another race.
Tho Eton mare, Lady Frances, was shipped from Auckland to New Plymouth on Sunday.
Latest about tho timing of races appears in the last issue of tho Sydney "'Referee" : —"ln the past Melbourneites have been inclined to discredit time records at.Randwick, but now wo have SydiVeynes' throwing doubt's upon timing at Flemington... 'Could there possibly have been .anything, wrong with the electric-clock?', -was. a query ...one heard after .tho news.came-through that Comedy King bad run a. mile -and a half in 2min. 31isec, thereby reducing Marlco's Randwick record by threequarters of a second."
Advice from Sydney states that tho Conqueror mare, Pakau, arrived safely last week, having made a good trip by tho steamer.
Thb programme of the Wairarap'a Racing Chiles -Autumn meeting, to bo held on the Tauherinikau Racecourse, on Saturday and Monday, April 15 and 17, appears in this issue.
