EAST COAST RAILWAY ROUTE.
INSPECTION BY HON. E. M'KENZIE (Br ToleirraDh-I.'resa Association.! Tauranga, March 14. During tlio past few days the lioil, R, M'Konzie, Minister for Public, Works, accompanied by Mr. ■ Holmes, Chief Engineer for the Public Works Department, and Mr. Mac Donald. member for the Buy of Plenty, has been visiting various parts of Tauranga County inspecting the route of the East Coast Railway. He was well received at Tauranga, and taken for a trip in the harbour on Sunday. Tho Minister promised a deputation that the railway bridge will be erected across tlio harbour. The party proceeded to To Puke on Monday, and werei banqueted in the evening. . Tho Minister and Mr. Mac Donald were enthusiastically received. They left Paengaroa Junction to which point the railway from Maunganui has been authorised this morning .to continue inspection of the hast Coast railway route to Napier. It is probable that the Maunganui-Te Puko section of the railway will be opened in about one year. The present is Mr. Mac Donald's first visit to Tauranga and Tc Pnke, and lie. expresses himself well pleased with the district. ' Tc Puke settlers are anxious for railway connectbn with Gisborne. so as to purchase there sheep for fattening.

Tho idea is to go by train from Auckland to Waihi, lucking up southern arrivals en route at,;' l'Vankton. The circular invitations state that it is particularly desired, to secure the presence of southern mem- ' bers so as to enable them to judge from "; personal observation the nature of the country to be opened up by the line,;/ and to sec the large amount of proaporous settlement which exists through- "' out tho East Coast district. , " !
