MUNICIPAL SLAUGHTERING.

FEBRUARY OPERATIONS. Reporting upon operations at the Municipal Abattoir during the month of February last, the manager (Sir. .J.C. Mackley) .'tares that, during the month, the following stock wore tlaughtere:l:—Cows, 53; -bullocks and heifers, Jio; bulls, 18; sheep, 3678; lamb?, 920; calves. EG; pig, 1. Out of this number five cows, six bullocks, two bulls, ten sheep, and one calf were condemned as .unfit far human consumption. The fees received on stock slaughtered at the abattoir amounted to ■£131 12s. &k, showing a decrease of ,£lO Os. lOd. on the figures for the previous month.

The fees received from meat export slaughterhouses on meat wild within the abattoir area amounted to c£UO lis. 2d., an increase of .£9 2s. 7d on the total for the previous month. An amount of ,£G Is. lOrl. from the Wellington Farmers' Freezing Co. (Mastcrton), which was received after tbe last monthly report, was H>ut in included in the foregoing total of <£14fl lis. 2d.

The turn collected during the month on the sale of offal, runners, etc., was £IW IS's. 3d., a decrease as compared with the previous month of .£9 lGs. Id. Receipts for the month from all sources totalled .E3S9 is. Td.. a decrease of .£lO 14s. -id. on the previous month. There was a decrease in the slaughtering for the month of 3G cattle, IGO shoep, 252 lambs, and five pigs, and an increase of 1G calves. The decrease was no doubt duo to the short month. Tho stock slaughtered during the month was of exceptionally prime quality, with the exception of 21 cattle, which were slaughtered for boning purposes. The increaso of stock slaughtered for February, 1911, as against February, 1910, was 275 cattle, 17G1 sheep, ISS lambs, 59 calves, and one pig. The fees on stock slaughtered increased by JE62 19s. 2d. Tho decrease in fees from .meat export slaughterhouses, comparing the above-mentioned months, amounted to <£S1 -Is. Sd., while an increase of i's2 17s. Bd. was shown on the sale of offal and runners. Tho total increase for February, 1911, over the same I month in 1910, was Mtt 14s.
