A Farewell Tea. Mrs. Malcolm Ross and Mrs. MacEwan were joint hotesses at a very delightful tea given in Mrs. Ross's house, in Hill Street, yesterday afternoon, as a farewell for Mrs. Stott, who is leaving on a visit to England within a fendays. Every week sees so many people leave theso shores for-England that it may seem almost like Wellington all over again to them when they' meet in London, as no doubt a good many of thom will, at some time or other. Very pretty flowers Were arranged in the drawing-room and in the dining-room, where tea was served, the table was artistically'decorated frith autumn flowers and foliage.. During the afternoon Mrs. Ross recited, and Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher sang, and every now and then a gramaphone, stationed upstairs, was also to be heard. Mrs. Watson, Mrs. C. Izard, and-Mrs. Bristow are also going to' England very shortly, and they too shared with Mrs. Stott all kinds of good wishes for. their enjoyment when they set out on their travels from those present. Mrs. MacEwan wore a very pretty cream lace dress over cream silk, and a large black hat with pink roses; Mrs.- Ross, was in a grey silk frock with a cream lace yoke; Mrs. Stott wore a dress of Brussels net with touches of blue over white satin, a large black hat with plumes and a white feather boa; Mrs. C. Izard had on an amythest dress and toquo of tho same colour; Mrs. Bristow, black lace over white silk, and a black and white hat; and Mrs. Watson, a navy blue costume and a hat to match. Some of those present were Mrs. L. Blundell,, Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Coburn Hood (Masterton), Mrs. Dean, Miss Coates, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. S. Harcourt, .Miss Tolhurst, Mrs. Knox, Mrs. Joseph, the Misses Harding (2), Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher* Mrs. Riley, Mrs. .Stafford, Mrs. Wilford, Mrs. F. Samuel, the Misses Nathan (2), Mrs. Knox, Mrs. Watkins (Hutt), and Mrs. Fulton. ■•
The Te Pani Club. • A' verv enjoyable evening was given :at the Y.W.C.A., in Maimers ..-.Street, last evening, when tho members of the newly-foroied Te Pani Club gave their -first-entertainment. This r club-has beenformed for the . purpose of studying music and literature, and is not confined exclusively to members of the association, but will be open to,'.all-young women who wisli to study these particular subjects. Owing to an attack of influenza, Mrs. A. R. Atkinson, who was to have given an address, was unable to be present, and apologies were also received from those of the committee who wcro unable to be present. A very good programme had been arranged for the evening's entertainment. Miss Wilson, the secretary of tho -Y.W.C.A., in the place of Mrs Atkinson, explained the objects of the club, and also played a pianoforte solo. Songs were contributed by Miss Newman and Miss Alderson, a vocal duet by the Misses Allender and Cavcrhi'l, recitations by Mrs. Peni'ico and Miss Harkness, and a dialogue by the Misses Dix (2). Mrs! Pearson, on behalf of the committee, congratulated the club on its formation', and supper brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
A Parcel Toa. On Saturday afternoon an enjoyable "Parcel Tea" was given by Miss Johnson for Miss Nellie Harness, whose marriage takes place this afternoon at St. Paul's. Miss Johnson received her guests in a pretty vieux rose frock. Mrs. Johnson was in black silk, and Miss Harness a pretty, simple frock of white Indian muslin. Songs and recitations were contributed by some of.tho guests, and two amusing competitions were hold, the prize-winners being: Mrs. Button, and tho Misses Conlm and Smith. Tea was served in the diningroom, the table being prettily arranged witli flowers. Among the parcels were some very useful and pretty things, accompanied by all manner of good wishes from the givers.
Obituary. Our Otaki correspondent writes that the death took place yesterday of Mrs. Ferguson, wife of Mr. Archie Ferguson, after a long and painful illness. The deceased lady, who was of a .verybright and cheerful disposition, was highly respected by all who knew her, and a great deal of sympathy is felt for her relatives. She leaves behind her a husband and family of three, viz., Mrs. V. Noble, and Messrs. Pat and .Bruce Ferguson.
