— : —4 'From Our Srecial CcrresDondent.i A successful sacred concert was given in St. David's Church, Petone, last evening, by local amateurs. Those contributing were: Misses Miller, M'Kinnon, Cotton, and Rodgers, and Messrs. Rennde and F. Mason. 'I'ho juvenile and adult choirs also gave several number?. The. monthly public meeting of the Hutt No-Licen.-e League was 'held at Petone last evening. The Kev. li. F. Rothwoll occupied the chair, and there was an excellent attendance. The following contributed items:—Mi.-ses Udy, Miller, Burton, Mrs. Low, ant) Messrs. Dalhunty, Ilepplcstone, and Wright. Miss M'lnne'-s and Mr. Bradley played the accompaniments. The >-peaker for the evening was Mr. w> J. llclyer, who dealt principally with the question of majority. With tho aid of diagrams ho chon-ed the returns of Massachusetts, Jiow, " under . a bare majority, that Ktato not only carried prohibition, but held it safely afterwards. He advocated the bare majority for the solution of the liquor question here, and urged his hearers to support those candidates only who favoured it. A vote of thanks was accorded him for his address. Before Dr.' M'Arthur, S.M., at the. Upper Jlutt Court yesterday, judgment was given for plaintiff in (he case John Allan v. Win. Taylor, <£) lGs. Gd., costs ]os. Judgment summons cases were dealt willi as follow:—W. liolfe wa.s ordered to pay -.£3 6s. Gd. to W. 11. Edwards by March 27, in default three days imprisonment; John B. Dalton was oi\i~red to pay William Jiohinson £8 by March 27, or'in default 7 days' imprisonment. In tho case of .John I'obinson v. Edpir L. Heinewood, plaintiff was non-suiteil. Geurgo Longhnrst, of Johnsonville, was charged with assaulting John Barton. J.P.. Nt Trentham. The case was adjourned till next court day.
