A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. IBy TclesraDh—l'rcss Association.) Gisborne, March 12. The New Zealand Polo Association's annual tournament was brought to a termination on Saturday with a most successful sports gathering and the' running'of the Polo Cup, which was won by R. Reynolds's Fashion Plate, with W. M'Keirae's Vivien in second place, and R. K. Murphy's Lady Betty third. In connection with the running of the cup race, a peculiar position arose. The raco had b;en timed to start at noon, and at that time a small assemblage of thirty or forty people gathered on the Park racecourse. The race was about to commence when Mounted Constable Dandy appeared on the scene, and informed'those present that they could not hold the Tace as. no permit had been obtained. - Tho disappointed "sports" trooped back to town, and after a series of telegrams to Wellington a permit was finally, obtained, and the race run at 'five o'clock.
