Mr. Taft, in a speech at tho Southern Commercial Congress, now being held at Atlanta, Georgia, emphasised the point that Canada was at • the parting of the ways, for an opportunity of securing closer trade relations would probably not recur. Even absolute Free-trade between tho two countries would not violate tho principles of the United States Protectionists or Tariff Reformers. Mr. Taft admitted that he had offered Canada complete Free-trade at tho outset of the negotiations. Mr. Taft also spoke optimistically with regard to the outcome of tho new Congressional session, summoned to deal with tho Reciprocity Agreement. ■
