DEBUTANTES AT COURT.

~, It f js stated.that, there are nearly 3000 'debutantes awaiting presentation at court this season, and. though possibly this number is' somewhat exaggerated, there aro undoubtedly a great number, as.so few courts were held last year (says • a writer in an Australian paper). The most important debutante of the year is the Princess Maud of I'ifc, who.is uot presented to the King and Queen as others are, but simply joins the royal circle, and will be present at one of the first courts with her mother, the Princess Royal and Princess Alexandra of Fife. Like hei- sister,' Princess Maud is very fair, and both have been brought up very simply,, and are fond of outdoor. sports. They h<lvo'been the constant companions of their mother, and are at present in. Egypt, where they will remain probably until the early spring. Lady Honor Ward, elder daughter of Lord.and Lady Dudley, is one of tho prettiest girls of the season, and will be among the important debutantes. She has recently' been..'staying with her grandmother, Gcorgina Lady Dudley, at Pembroke Lodge, Regents Park, and lias been a regular visitor at the Olymnia Skating Rink.. Lady Victoria Carrington, whose name must he added to the list of debutantes, is the youngest daughter of Lord and Lady Carrington. She was born during tho period that Lord Carrington held office as Lord Chamberlain/ Queen Victoria was her godmother, and presented her at the christening with a diamond and sapphire pendant, which Lady Victoria has generally worn ever since— and even as n baby the royal gift was worn on a tiny gold chain. . .
