ONSLOW LIGHTING.
Sir, —Referring to the report of tho Lighting Committeo of the City Council, which appeared in your issue of .this morning, the position, so far as it concerns the Onslow Borough Council, is not correctly stated, or, at least, understood. ■ The Onslow Borough Council has always been .willing, and, in fact, most anxious to make more satisfactory arrangements for tho supply- of electrical energy to tho borough. As long ago as June, 1909, the council set up a committee, consisting of the Mayor (Air. Harkness) and the writers of this letter, to discuss matters with tho Electrical Department of the City Council. After some considerable difficulty and delay the committeo obtained a brief interview with Mr. Stuart Richardson, Electrical Engineer. Mr. Richardson informed the committeo that hp could not entertain any revision in the prico then charged for tho supply of electricity, and suggested as the only way out of the difficulty that the Onslow Borough Council should buy the existing plant and run their own lighting. He promised at tho time to let tho Onslow Borough have a statement showing the value of tho plant as it then existed. That statement has never yet been supplied to the council, nor since that dato has the Wellington City Council ever given the Onslow Borough Council any encouragement to further discuss tho matter. Thus, it is apparent that tho City Council's Electrical Department has up till now waived any reconsideration of tho present contract with the Onslow Borough Council. No blame therefore can bo chargeable against the Onslow Borough Council—l am, etc., • - B. LYNNF.BERG, Deputy-Mayor, . A-. 'FERGUSON^Councillor, Borougli of Onslow.
