NGAHAURANGA GORGE ROAD.

« PROPOSED WIDENING. The Ngahauranga Gorge Road camo under review once moro at the meeting of tho Makara County Council hold yesterday. Tlio road at present is from 12ft. to loft, wide, and tho council dosiro that it should bo made at least 30ft. wide below tho municipal abattoirs. An estimate of tho cost of the work (£5000) had been prepared by Mr. Mace (of Macc and Nicholson), aijd at the meeting Councillor l'\ T. Mooro moved that the plans and estimates ho approved as presented, subject to such modifications as might be necessary, and that members of the council and leading owners of property fronting tho road form a deputation to wait upon tho Minister for Public Works to ask him for a £ for £ subsidy towards the cost, of the proposed road-widening, Mr. Moore referred to the dangerous character of the road in its present condition, and its unsuitabihty for all classes of traffic, which was increasing caoh year, appreciably so since the erection of the municipal abattoirs. The scheme also provides for tho ro-oroction in brick "or Clark's Bridp:e, recently damaged by flood. Councillor T. 11. Hawkins seconded the motion, which was carried.
