PARIS STREET FIGHT.
BATTLE BETWEEN "APACHES" AND POLICE. A' regular. battle was waged in. the small hours of the morning recently 011 tho Boulevard Arago, Paris, between the police and a band of "apachcs''- calling themselves tho "Tatooed Band of the Buttc-aux-Caillcs," all the members of which, by the way, carry a distinctive sign-in the form of a tatooed star on the cheek, and another on tho right hand between tho thumb and index finger.
The affray began when the police passed a cafe much frequented by tho market gardeners in the early morning on their way to the Ilalles. The cafo opens at 3.30 a.m., and the "apaches" wero creating a disturbance. On tho intervention of tho police they put out the lamp lights in tho immediate neighbourhood, and in tho darkness carried 011 a running fight with four policemen who fired their revolvers in the air. For a quarter of an hour (ho fusillade continued, after which the "apaches" retired, leaving two of their number prisoners. One of these, a young man of 2:J, is known as tho "Terror of the Butto-aux-Cailles," and is the leader of flic band.
In the course of the fight the second man who was arrested was shot through tho hand and in the thigh by the "Terror." 011 the "Terror"-were found two revolvers and five knives. A police sergeant wns wounded in the hand by a blow from a knife.
