A VETERAN WRITER.
Miss Caroline A. White, of Mowbray Road, Upper Norwood, who has just celebrated her 100 th birthday, and who is ■still in excellent health, has received the following letter of ' congratulation from the King:—'"The King has heard with great interest .that you have attained your hundredth birthday, and congratulates you on reaching this remarkable old r»;e. His Majesty is glad to hear that you still keep up your literary work, and trusts that your lifo may be blessed witli health and peace." ' Miss White has devoted 80 years of her long life to literary pursuits. •An introduction to Tom Hood, and subsequently to Douglas Jorrold, in her early years, was instrumental in securing for her regular literary work. For 1G years she was editor of "The Lady's Companion," and up to within a few'years ago she led a strenuous life of literary labour.
