PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(From Our SDecial Correspondent.; Palmerston, March 9. The Mayor and councillors will pay their annual visit of inspection to the Tiritea head works on Wednesday next. Preparations for the work of raising the dam are to be proceeded with at once. Tho contractor for clearing the ground above has already made a start.

The Manawatu Amateur Athletic Club wound up.a pleasant day's sport .with a social evening at the rooms of Dustin's, Ltd., when they .entertained'a large nnmtwr of competitors and their friends. The Mayor occupied, the chair, and a number of toasts were honoured. Several musical items were rendered, and a pleasant evening passed. The prizes won during the day were presented to. the winners by Mr. W. S. Dickson, chairman of the committee.

Florence Faith Fletcher, fruiterer, filed a statement in bankruptcy yesterday. Amounts owing to unsecured creditors are given as ,£425; assets (including furniture, .£3O, and stock-in-trade, .£2O) amount to .£ll9, leaving a deficiency, of .£306. Among unsecured creditors ' are Mrs. F. A. Fletcher ,£135. G. Humphries .£l5O, Atlas Biscuit Co. .£3l, Hunter and Franks .£lO, .all.of Christchurch; Palmerston creditors are:—A. Grant, «£lO lGs. Gd.; Mrs. Coombs, ,£35; Barraud and Abraham, £a; and small amounts to A. J. Carson, Fresh Food Co., W. Just, .Torgensen and Wnnsch, Pettitt and Dudley, E. Bruce, and Hilmer and Gilchrist.

A little boy, son of Mr. W. E. Kells, was rather badly bitten by a dog while playing on a footpath yesterday, the injuries necessitating medical attention. It seems that the boy was being severely worried by the animal, and was only rescued with difficulty by two ladies.
