LIGHT FOR ONSLOW BOROUGH.
6 BUT WHICH LIGHT? The City Council had before it last night the following recommendation of its Tramways and Lighting Committee:— "That the Onslow Borough Council bo informed that this council will be prepared to negotiate with them in connection with tho supply of electric energy to the borough." The Mayor (Mr. Wilford) said that one of the Onslow councillors had asked whether the City Council would give a demonstration of the use of electricity for heating, and the reply was given that this would be done. When the letter was read at the meeting of the. Onslow Council any councillor of that borough who objected to the gas scheme would have tho right to move for tho rescission of the resolution for the adoption of tho Gas Company's scheme. In reply to a question, tho Mayor said there had been no official communication between tho two municipalities. Councillors Fletcher and M'Larcn suggested that the- corporation had not been sufficiently active "in the matter. Councillor Smith thought the council could not very well have pushed in until they knew their assistance was desired. Councillor Luko thought tho city should demonstrate to all suburban bodies the advantages of the light it could supply. Councillor Fitzgerald said the matter was not of very great importance to Onslow or to Wellington. Tho real object of the Gas Company was to run a main through to Johnsonville. In the reticulation of such a. scattered district gas could not compote with electricity. The recommendation was adopted.
