Yesterday Mr. Kerr, S.M., spoke rather strongly en the practice of some local solicitors in making arrangements as. to the time for the hearing cf eases, with a view to their own convenience only, and without regard to tho time of the Court. The sitting opened at 10.30 in the morning, and was almost over in half an hour, but ono case could not bo heard becauso counsel had arranged for his client to come in by the 1.30 train. An adjournment was applied for. His Worship said solicitors took too much upon themselves in this way, and if they could not arrange to get tho cases on at the proper time they would have to wait till he had time to attend to them later. He had plenty of work to do without being delayed for the convenience of counsel and their clients..
At a meeting of the Agricultural Association last night the chairman referred to the recent conviction cf a stallholder at the last show for infringement of Hie halfholiday regulations, and said that this was a'serious menace, to the association. It depreciated the value of stall holdings, and if such people were not allowed to vend their wares on show days considerable.loss to the association would be entailed. It was decided that the secretary communicate with kindred societies, notifying them of the facts, and asking co-operation in bringing the matter before the Government, with a view to rendering agricultural shows immune from the operation of the Act.
The annual boat race, Wanganui College against Wanganui Rowing Club juniors, took place yesterday afternoon, the clubmen winning somewhat easily by four lengths. -
