THE KING'S ROAD AT MIRAMAR. SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING. The proposal to reduce the width of one of its streets (King's Road) from 09 to 66 feet came again beforo tho Miramar.Borough Council at a special meeting hold yesterday, which was attended by tho Mayor (Mr. J. Brodie) and Councillors Bowie, Dell, md Richards. iho .Mayor formally moved a resolution under which ino Council determined by special order in pursuance oi its statutory powers, to diminish the width of Kings itoad, .Miramar, by talcing from it a strip ,),) leet wide. Objection to this course was taken by Councillor Bowie. At tho previous ordinary meeting of tho council lie said sovera} motions had been carried and u notice of motion had been tabled to rescind them, it would bo wise, to deal tirst with the motion to rescind beforo proceeding lo deal with tho business before this special mooting. As a fact tho motions passed at tho ordinary meeting were informal because they dealt with matters that could bo legally dealt with wl V ,i m f l '? 610 , 1 , mcct >i'K- Tho council had decided to take stops to dispose of the land gained by reducing the road without having first obtained 'possession of the land. Inferring to a clauw in one of the motions patsod at the ordinary meeting ("that the offer of the Gas Cornpany should be without condit'ous ) Councillor Bowie saul that, if adopted, it would probably land the council in for legal proceedings later. Tho Mayor remarked that this wis a spccia meeting, held in natural sequence I alter the waiter under consideration had fiint been dealt with by the council in the ordinary way. If tho special order were passed at this meeting it would be brought up for confirmation on April I Councillor Bowio contended that what was done at tho ordinary meeting was informal, and should lx> rescinded before anything further was done. Councillor Bell understood that, at tho ordinary meeting, tho feeling of tha council.was ascertained. It was now proposed to give formal cltect to tho wishes of tho council.

Tho Mayor stated that ample time would bo given for anyone to lcclge objections between tho present time nnii the date upon which tho special order would ba brought up for confirmation. Further, ho intended to move that property-own°p» in King's Road should be invited !o meat tho council, and discuss tho position. Tho council had no desite to fight ratepayers concerned. As a matter of fact there had been as'yet no indication of any objection to tho step the council proposed to take in connection with tho reduction in width.

Councillor Bowie said the danger was that if the machinery wore once set iu motion (here might bo no stonpi.i;j it cvin if objections were raised.

To a remark by tho Mayor (hat the council was doing everything p.-s-iblc by arranging tn hear legitimate cbjoitors, Councillor Bowie replied that if they could not persuade the council the ratepayers concerned would have no n'Jress.

After some further discussion a vote was taken and the motion authorising tho reduction in width of King's Road 'tn carried. The Mayor end Couuciilars Bell and Richards voted for tho nnt; m o'id Councillor Bowie in the negative.
