JAPANESE IN NOUMEA.
FRENCH INDIFFERENT TO THE INFLUX. Bj Tclesraph—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 8. The "Sydney Morning Herald" publishes an interview with a resident of Now Caledonia. The person interviewed states that ho has little doubt the Japaneso Government is behind the immigration of its subjects to the island. Tho French are quite indifferent to the influx, as they are to most things. ■ Useless officialdom reigns, and the colonists strongly object to keep it in an extravagant life of luxury.
French residents, he says, frequently express a desire that Australia should annex the whole of the Loyalty Islands. The French Government utterly disregards New Caledonia's facilities as a strong naval base.
