Godlee, Honorary Surgeon in Ordinary to the King, in delivering tho Hunterian lecture at the University of London, stated that rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of rheumatism were due to strepto-bacillus malae, directly traceable to bad teeth. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease, the essential nature 6f which has hitherto been unknown. It is mainly characterised by degenerative and inflammatory changes in the joints, leading to deformity. Persons of all ages may suffer from tho disease, including children, but it generally begins between twenty and forty. Tho disease is hereditary, and is

believed to be more-frequent in women. In a certain proportion of cos6s it follows acuta rheumatism either immediately or after an interval of several years. Death from this disease is rare. A variety of micro-organisms have been described as efficient causes.
