ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MAN KILLED INSTANTANEOUSLY. (By TcleEraph-Presa Associition.l' Taihape, March 7." Mr. H. R. Middleton, foreman of the P-owell _ Process Works at : Itangataua, while iu charge of the working of a "stumping devil" yesterday afternoon, was, owing to the snapning of a hook, struck on tho side of the head. The blow smashed his head, and caused instantaneous death. The hook broke when the machine was at the maximum pressure. ■ . Deceased .leaves a widow and ' two children. . . . RUN OVER AND, KILLED.. Auckland, March 7; A fatal accident occurred, at Te Aroha yesterday, a well-known resident of Mac-' kaytown, Mr. B. M'Gcelian, being killed. Mr. M'Gcelian was knocked down on the racecourse by a four-horse brake which passed over his body, killing Mm. instantly. An elderly man named' Samuel"Crammer, who was admitted to the Hospital about three weeks ago suffering from broken ribs the result of an accident in which he was run over by a cart, died this morning. His death, was duo to heart trouble accentuated by the broken ribs.
A TRUCKER'S DEATH. Westport, March 7. A trucker at tho "Westport Coal Company's Mangatina. mine, named James Campbell, a single'man, who was injured last night through a runaway truck of coal passing over aim, died at 11.30 o'clock this morning. A FALL OF COAL. Dunedin, March 7. Particulars have just been received of an accident at Cooper's mine, near Milton, on Saturday, when Alexander M'Luckie, aged 30, was killed by.a fall of coal. The deceased, who was a married man, together with a mato named Broom, wero filling coal into a box when a block of coal of about a ton weight caught M'Luckie. Broom had a narrow escape.. When tho coal was removed M'Luekic was fouiid in a kneeling position, death having evidently been instantaneous. His skull was fractured, his neck broken, and his back badly knocked about. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. A trucker named Good was caught by the tail of the fall, and had the muscles of his left arm stripped from the shoulder.
