ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

The council of tho St. John Ambulance Association met last evening, Mr. C. P. Powhs piesidinß. The secretary (Mr. J. Davey), reporting: in reference to the proposal of the In-spector-General of Hospitals (Dr. Valintino) thai tho association should resign ; =i, the Hospital Board tho ambulance work it now carries out, stated 'oit he had writtc.i to the associations in tlw other three large centres of the Dominion, asking whether thev, as well as Wellington, had received the Inspec-tor-General's proposal. From replies received it appeared that they had not. In Auckland "ordinary ambulance transport was.at present carried out by the board, and the association confined its attention to invalid transport by litter. The association secretary in Christchurch, Mr. Avcry stated, had inquired whether Dr. Valintiiie's proposal was of local application, applying only to Wellington. An affirmative reply had been forwarded.

One of the items in the accounts, a doctor's claim for lecture fees, drew from the chairman a remark that he supposed tho association could not complain at this new phase, but that tho doctors used to deliver these lectures "for tho love of the thing."

The council decided to 'approach the Medical. Conference, which is to nsseniblo shortly, with a view to obtaining the concession of free ambulance lectures if possible.
