MAITAI SAILS AT 3 P.M. At 3 p.m.. to-day the Union Company's E.M.S. Maitai is to leave the Queen's Wharf, Wellington, for San Francisco, via Auckland, Rarotonga, and Papeete. Tho vessel is scheduled tn arrive at tho American port on March 31.
OF INTEREST TO MARINERS. The Marine Department has received advice from the Auckland Harbour Board
which states that all rock has now been removed from "Kaipar'a shoal," but that the mark buoy will not bo removed until Lieutenant Jackson has completed his survey of tho harbour.
ETJAUINE LEAVES lIOBAET. Information has been received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Conipa.ny intimating that the E.M.S. ftuahinc, in continuation of her voyage from London to Wellington, left Hobart at 10 p.m. on Monday. Given fine weather the vessel should put in an appearance here on Friday night. NORA NIVEK'S CARGO. The actuai quantity of fish brought by the steam trawler Nora Nivcn from the Chatham Islands on Monday night was 767 cases of blue cod, and 14 sacli3 of hapuka. This' represents a total of about 29 tons. To-day the vessel takes her departure for the Hawke's Bay trawling grounds, but returns to Wellington shortly to undergo survey and general overhaul on the slip.
TAINUI LEAVES PLYMOUTH. Cable advice received by the local agents of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company is to the effect that the Tainui left Plymouth for Wellington, via TenerilTe, Cape Town, and Ilohart, on Saturday afternoon. This vessel has some remarkably good steaming performances to her credit, and although scheduled to reach Wellington on April 18, it is nuito likely that sho will reach port two, or even three, days ahead of time, if all goes well.
KNIGHT OF THE GAETEE. It is stated that the New Zealand Shippine Company s chartered steamer Knight oi tne uarter may be only temporarily repaired at Port Chalmers, and that tho major portion of the repairs will bo carried out when she reaches Britain. Tho Wcstport Coal Company's steamer Regulns arrived at Wellington from Westport yesterday afternoon with a full load of coal. She returns this afternoon.
Lite last night a scow arrived in the ctrcam at Wellington. This will probably be the Ngaru, from Tonga, Bay.
The Mangapana left Wcstport at 9.15 p.m. for Wellington yesterday. The vessel has been detained on the West Coaet owing to tho inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the stranding of the scow Zingara. at Karainea. The Mangapapa will leave port again for Wcstport and Karamca this evening.
Shortly after nine o'clock yesterday morning the Union Company's steamer Kotuku proceeded to Evans Bay to bo placed on' the slip for overhaul. She will be followed by the Harbour Board's dredge.
Yesterday morning the Blenheim came off the Patent Slip, and will resume running between Wellington and Blenheim today. The Waihi, which hae becu cmployed relieving the former vessel, proceeds to Nelson shortly to relieve the steamer Lady Barkloy in the Nclson-Col-lingwood trade.
Messrs. 'Levin and Co., local agents for the Gertie, which arrived from Foston yesterday, intimate that the vessel leavce Wellington on tho return trip this afternoon at 5 o'clock.
Mr. C. Croucher, mate of tho Patea Shipping Company's steamer Kapiti, left the vessel at Wellington yesterday, and Mr. V. E. Johanson was appointed to fill tho vacancy.
The Anchor Lino's fleet 'will bo well represented at Wellington this week for, up to tho present, they have a boat leaving for Nelson every day this week. Today the Alexander leaves port for Nelson and the West Coast, and to-morrow both tho Nikau and the Kaitoa, are to be placed on the loading berth, the former vessel for Nelson and the latter for the West Coast as well. On Friday the Waimea. will receive cargo, and again on Saturday the Nikau leaves port for Nelson direct.
Last night tho F.-n.-S. Line's steamer Everton Grange was to have left Picton for Napier, Bluff, Timaru, and LyUeltpn. At the ports mentioned Homeward loading will be continued, and she will clear Lyttelton finally for Avonmouth about March 22.
At 2 p.m. yesterday the Arahura continued her journey from Greymouth to Wellington, via way ports, her last port being Wcstport, and her next Nelson. Today the vessel makes a call at Pictou before crossing tho Strait. She will arrive here thi3 evening.
Word has been received by the local office of the Union Company stating that the Haupiri was able to work Tokomaru Bay j-esterday, and was to have worked Tolago Bay last night. She is expected to reach Gisborne this morning, and Wellington on Friday. The vessel comes from Auckland, via Limestone Island.
The "Polynesian Gazette" says:—"Wo understaud that overtures have been made to Levuka merchants as to the advisability of an independent, line of steamers to connect Auckland, Now Zealand, with Fiji, and Levuka, in particular."
