RESIGNATION.

MR J O \V. AITKEN AND THE ! HOSPITAL- BOARD. The. followins i* lext o[ Mr> ,L °' AV. Ailken's lollei- forwavded to the secretary of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Beard rosignius Ins position as chairman of that body:— "Wear Sir,—l hereby resign my Mat on the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Bnard. 1 do so with very much rc-l'l-ct, as I have taken a great interest in Hip work being done by the board, and had considerable pleasure in fceliug that I was servine; Uμ community in that way. I did 11-ot realise, when I allowed myself to l>o nominated tor a seat on the board, that it would interfere in any way with work boing done by me in other directions. The reason for my resignation i? this: Some twelve years ago I accepted the position of being executor anil trustee in the estate of a friend who died about that time. I s'.ill, as a director, represent the beneficiaries in the business left by my late friend. I can-no-t in good conscience resign that position, and as the btifinofs is one that supplies goods used by tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Beard, I must do one of two things—cither resign my position on the hoard or prevent tho board from purchasing any goods from the business in question. Were the business or the main portion of it mine, I would at once do the. latter, hut as tho business practically belongs to tho family of my late friend, I must take the first of these alternatives, a-.id hones the, eanss of my resignation. Will you pleaf-a convey to the members of the board my sincere regret at having to part with them, but, under the circumstances, it cannot be avoided.— I am, yours sincerely (Sgd.), John G. W. Aitken."
