The deor-slulking. season in the Wairarapa will extend from April 1 to May 15 inclusive. This year the Wellington Acclimatisation Society has recommended, and the Governor lias approved, the opening of the whole of the Haurangi reserve in the Wairarapa district. Hitherto some 10,000 acres have been reserved there as n tanetuary. The council hope, nest, year to allow a limited number of heads" to be shot in the Wainui and Paraparamnu districts.

Mr. Corrigan uttered a protest at the meeting of the Industrial Association last evening against the too free use. of tho term "New Zealand" as descriptive of institutions and enterprises founded in Wellington. "Take, for instance," ho said, "the New Zealand Academy of Tine Arts. It owns a picture and a half. Every other town of importance in New Zealand owns a decent art gallery, but it is reserved to us to arrogate the title of 'New Zealand.' I think we should be a little more mo:lest."
Mr. Andrew Collins sprung a new word uiJon the Supremo Court yesterday. "It means the loaves that are left over from a baking and have to go into the next batch." His Honour took up his neii to write again. "How do you sijoH it!'" liu asked, after a moment's hesitation. "Well, 1 don.'t lenow, your Honour," replied iir. Collins, "I've never .spelt it in my life." A laugh rippled over the Court, ami Mr. Herdinan saitl lie had got tlic word down "catchel." His Honour accepted this'spelling, and Huh was a new word introduced to a New Zealand judge's rough note diary. Probably a good many more would bo found in tho records of the Arbitration Court Judge.
The renaming of the approaching Industrial Exhibition, which is to open in Wellington on May 21, occunied members of the Provincial Industrial Association for some time last evening. The president (Mr. '!'. Ballingor) suggested (hat tho title of "Coronation Exhibition" should bo chosen. An amendment that "Coronation Industrial Exhibition" should bo substituted met with general favour, until a member pointed out that She association might, if it adopted this name, be put to considerable expense in altering its stationery. Ultimately it was agreed that the exhibition should be called "The Coronation New Zealand Industrial Exhibition." The alteration in stationery . which this involves can ha effected at slight expense.
