EXCITEMENT IN ILLINOIS
ROBBER KILLS A POLICEMAN. By Tc!cErat,h—Press Association—CopyrlcMNew York, March 5. There wero exciting scenes at Alexandria, Illinois, following the shooting of a policeman by a robber. The man was discovered holding up a jeweller's store, and when cornered by the police killed one of the constables. He then fled, and barricaded himself in a vacant house. A posse surrounded the house, and a fight appeared to be imminent. An accomplice of the robber has been arrested. A mob endeavoured to storm tho gaol, and lynch the prisoner, but was dispersed.
