Referring to a telegram from Mr. Wright, M.P., denying that th& temperance party in Wellington had any knowledge of Sir Joseph Ward's alleged offer to make tho 55 per cent, majority a vital issue, Mr. L. M. Isitt explains that he did not stale that the Prime Minister offered to stake tho existence of tho Government on the 55 per cent. What he did say was that Sir Joseph Ward declared to members of tho Prohibition party that if they insisted, he was prepared to fulfil his promise to include a reduction of the majority as a provision of the Bill, however impossible it might be to carry it at that juncture.
