The majority of the Cabinet Ministers who went to Auckland with the Prime Minister will return to Wellington this evening. The Hon. Tv. M'Kcnzio and the Hon. J. A. Millar will be absent iu the north a few clays longer. Mr. T. AValtlegravo (Commissioner of Police) leaves to-day for Auckland on Departmental business. The Hon. K. M'Kcnzie (Minister for Public Works) leaves Auckland to-day for Humna, in the Waikato district. To-mor-row he rocs to Huntly. Afterwards ho accompanies Mr. AY. S. Macdonald (member for the Bay of Plenty) over a portion of his electorate, and then works down to Napier from Gisbornc over the route of the proposed railway. Brigadier Bray, who has been in chargn of tlia social work of the Salvation Army in Sew Zealand for some years, leaves on a trip'to England on Friday. No will be accompanied by Colonel JJoskin, Chief Secretary for Australia, and they will confer with General Booth, with a view to ecnr-oHdating the social work of the Army. Mr. Thomas Carmichael, builder and contractor, and an ox-member of the City Council, left by the Main Trunk express yesterday to take up bis residence in Auckland. Mr. D. Robertson, Secretary to the Post and Telegraph Department, went north with the Prime Minister on Saturday. He is expected to return to-morrow. Mr. L. Archdeacon Crossley recently made a statement to his parishioners at All Saints', St. Hilda, in reference to his appointment as Anglican Bishon of Auckland. He said ho had had no hand or part in the matter. When in Sydney he had .been told by a Bishop in Australia that ho had suggested his (tho Archdeacon's) name, and that was all ho knew about it prior ,to tho election. Every priest and layman in the Auckland Synod had a vote. "The matter had been under consideration for three- months, during which manv inquiries were made. Then, after the Synod had sat for two days, the vote was taken. . He had, since accepting the call, received tho kindest of cablegrams, telegrams, and letters from Bishops, priests, and laymen in Australia and New" Zealand. Our local correspondent adds that Mr. M'Kenzie has also had several overtures since his arrival, from other congregations. Mr. W. D. Michie has been appointed clerk of works at the Children's Hospital upon the erection of which a start is to be made shortly. , Mr. A. Hamilton, director of the Dominion Museum, is paying a short visit to Wanganui. Mr. G. H. Gibb, who leaves Shannon next week to take up study at the theological college in Dunedin, preached his farewell sermon on Sunday evening when there was a large congregation. Although only in the student stage (says our local correspondent) Mr. Gibb has exerted an invigorating influence in tho district. Dr. Bell, late Director of Geological Survey in New Zealand, leaves New Zealand on Friday next. He proceeds to Sydney, and visits New Caledonia, en rout* to England. From England lie goes to Canada. Mr. Peter Clarke, of the Geological Survey office, accompanies Dr. Bell. Mr. J. G. W. Aitken has sent in his resignation as chairman and member of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
